VIDEO POKER AND SLOT CLUB RATINGS

While there are books, newsletters, and other sites detailing the best video poker games, their locations, and the best slot clubs, they all have one of two failings: they are either obsolete (video poker game inventories and slot club benefits change constantly) or incomplete (they discuss their favorite types of video poker, and slot clubs not at all). This web page's goal is to provide more complete information AND offer an opinion as to which casinos offer the best combinations of payback, slot club benefits, and casino atmosphere.

OUR TOP 40 VEGAS VIDEO POKER PLAYS

Our criteria: This page combines input from all other pages on this site to determine which casinos are the best overall for video poker players. For the most part, we just do the math: total up the best Video Poker return (assuming perfect play as per Frome, Paymar, Dancer), the slot club cashback and food comp percentages. Please note that this method assumes you are (as I am) flexible about the type of machine. Also note that we rank a casino's video poker  Bes Play based on it's best amchinesmachines - even if there's only one of them.  Also, although we try to include info about both little nickel ($.05) and big nickel ($5) machines, this page is focused on the $.25 and $1 denominations, as that is what our readers tend to play. Credit is also given to the quality of a casino, its comped food, its personnel, and current promotions. Ratings are skewed a bit toward a casino's appeal to low and mid-rolling visitors, who comprise the vast majority of this site's members.

CATEGORIES RATED

Video Poker - Best Play:
The highest-paying machine. The availability of progressives, 4700-coin royals, or $1 denominations may raise a rating to the next level.

Overall Inventory:
*****...= Lots of great-paying machines of many kinds in many denominations!
*...........= Video Poker Hell.

Benefits:
Slot club benefits and ease of use, plus comps. Cashback is given about twice the value of comp-dollars, although for low rolling visitors their value is probably the same (gotta eat somewhere!). The availability of additional comps thru slot hosts is also considered. Their generosity with mailed free room offers is a big factor as well, as the the value of these can easily dwarf any other comps for low rollers. The second most important category, to our way of thinking, because it can vary so much between casinos.

Food:
Quality of commonly comped food. Primarily: buffets and coffee-shops. The price of the meal is largely ignored, as you're not paying for it.

Casino:
Measure of how pleasant it is to play there. Includes architecture, atmosphere, service, clientele, drinks, free entertainment, music, cocktail waitresses and their uniforms, etc.

Current Promotions (if any):
Rates the value of this month's promotions (double or triple point times, drawings, scratch cards, etc.) by their value and how often they are in effect. This is the most important category, because, even more than Benefits, it varies a great deal from casino to casino. We don't value drawings very highly and rarely make note of them; they tend to be more hassle than they are worth.

Hotel
Measure of how nice the hotel's location, rooms, pools, and entertainment options are.

Locals
Rates the casino for Vegas residents. VP inventory, cashback, and local's mailings are primary considerations. We're looking primarily at quarter action here - if you live in Vegas and play $1+ VP, you're either broke or already know what you are doing.

Low-Rolling Visitor
Rates the casino for visitors who play less than $3000/day. Primary factors are $.05-$.25 VP inventory, ease of room and buffet comps, and likelihood of getting free-room offers.

Mid-Rolling Visitor
Rates the casino for visitors who play $3000-$15,000/day. Primary factors are $.25-$1 VP inventory, ease of room and food comps, and the quality of room offers.

High-Rolling Visitor
Rates the casino for visitors who play $15,000+/day. Ease of room and food comps are less of a factor here: you should be getting these automatically. Primary factors are $1+ VP inventory, cashback, ease of suite comps, quality of accommodations and upper end restaurants, and quality of room offers.

Trend
Down: Has been falling in our TOP-40; things are going to hell.
Steady: Nothing new.
Up: Has been rising in our TOP-40; the hot new trendy craze that everyone's been talking about! To conclude before we even go into details one of the best for fun play of slots that I've seen lately is for sure place where you can play free slots online is slotoff.com FITP: Flash-in-the-Pan. Rated higher than usual because of some terrific current promotion.
Erratic: All over the place. It's up. It's down. It's all around.
Quiet: We rarely get feedback on this place. We're pretty sure it's still there, but that's about it.

25c/50c/$1/$2 single line 10/7 Double Bonus - 400 such machines, about half of which have been changed to .05,.10.25 denoms, perhaps in anticipation of the July multipoint promotion (see below). 66 full-pay deuces in 6 banks of 10 or 12, from West to East: 2 banks near Terrible Mike's, one near the large bar in the center east of the Sports Book, one near Seattle's Best Coffee, one near the escalators in the middle on the East end, and one near the stairs to the east parking. Only a few progressives and they were not very good pay tables. Lots of NSUDs up to $2.
.25% cashback OR .30% comps officially, but an additional 0.3% in "unofficial" comps thru hosts/floormen. 2X pts from Sun 6PM thru Fri 6PM all July, excpt 3X on 7/4.
Their lunch buffet is a good value. Coffee shop is so-so. San Miguel's is pretty good.
Usually has double points on holidays.
Comp points do not expire. As little as $3K play/day gets your room comped thru host Donna Sinclair, but food comps can be difficult. Good mailings to locals.
Comments: Looks like the Orleans all over again (why mess with success?), but a little nicer, and with easier room comps.

149 $.25 FPDW machines (most are in new multidenoms that are short-pay at all other denoms), including a bank of 12 near the ice cream area and a row of 10 as you come out of the Mexican restuarant.
A bank of $.50/$1 multidenom-multigame Game Kings with $1 10/7 DB just outside of the high rollers area near the Mardi Gras Bar, more $1 10/7 DB scattered. Some $.25 10/7 DB Triple Play machines, but  - The two banks of triple play between the Alligator Bar and the Crawfish Bar at the Orleans Casino no longer contain 10/7 double bonus. There's still at least one bank left near Kate's Korner. Many $.25 10/7 DB.
A bank of 25c IGT machines that are multi game, triple play, progressives near the buffet with 9/7 DB. A bank of Game Kings with $.05 10/7 DB by the west entrance.
Their new wing (adjoining their new parking garage) is open, and contains 33 new $.25 FPDW machines. 8 of these are slant-tops
5-cent 10/7 DB progressive triple plays with a progressive on each line as well as on the natural dealt royal.
A bank of multigames east of the sportsbook that have 10/7 DB in denoms for $.25 up to $2.
2X Points Every Friday and on Tuesday From 5 PM To 12 Midnight Through July, 3X on 7/4.
Slot club pays .25% cashback OR .30% comps.
Tight with room comps and room offers.
Usually has double points on holidays.
Excellent buffet. Sazio's offers great traditional Italian.
Additional comps possible thru slot hosts? sometimes - must give them some serious play first - are very inconsistent
    Comp points do not expire.
Comments: Locals heaven. Would be a great play for visitors, but it's too hard to get room comps (and their rooms are NICE).

Plenty of $.25 10/7 DB. A 10-machine slant-top $.25 FPDW progressive bank just inside the main (north) entrance (near the Palapa bar). A 10-machine slant-top $1 10/7 five-way progressive (albeit very slow meters - .02%) by the buffet. Another bank of $.25 FPDW next to the slot club booth. NSUD everywhere, in $.25, $1, and $5. 9/6 jacks in $.25, $1, $2, and $25. $1 triple play with 9/6 jacks. Near the slot club there are four red Bally's Gamemaker Plus machines with both 10/7/80 DB and Pick 'em at $.25 and $.50. A few of the penny matrix and fifty-plays by the entrances have 9/6 jacks. Spinpokers with 9/6 jacks in $.25 and $.50, and have $.25, $1/$2 3/5 plays with 9/6 jacks and NSUD. A bank of quarter 20/7 KBJW (100.6%)  two banks in from the Keno area, next to a nickel KBJW (short-pay) Progressive. There's a bank of quarter 15/8 LDs between the slot club and food CT. Abank of 15/8 loose deuces (100.1%) just west of the slot club. 26 new $.25 10/6 DDB (100%) machines - 12 by the west entrance, 6 by the Palapa Lounge, and 8 by the front desk. Also near the Palapa Lounge: 6 $.25 multigames with 50,000 coin sequential royals, offering 9/6 bonus deluxe, 9/6 jacks, and 9/7 Triple Double Bonus.
There is one 10/7 DB for 25-cents at the Palapa bar (far left seat) and one 10/7 DB for dollars at the center bar (far right facing the door). There is also one bartop with quarter 10/7 at Sidelines Sports Bar (on the far right as you face the sports book) and one bartop with quarter 10/7 at the Island Bar (center bar)(far left on the quarter side of the bar).
There are three 10/6 DDB in dollars at the end of a bank of seven DDB, just outside the high roller lounge.
Nearly all of the machines are fast and coinless.
0.25 comps and no cashback. $1 coin-in = 1 point. Room comps are easy thru some hosts, hard thru others. Go figure.  3x pts on 7/4.
Additional comps possible thru slot hosts? yes
Comments: imagine the Hard Rock crossed with the Orleans. A unique casino that markets to both locals and upscale tourists successfully.

Many 9/6 jacks and many 10/7 DB at quarter and $1 levels. A number of multidenom GameMakers with .$25 10/7/80 Double Bonus, FPDW and Pick'em - but some have "Slim Pick'ems" -  be sure to check the pay table. $.25 Triple Play machines with 10/7 DB. About 100 FP $.25 deuces. On the wall opposite Kate's Korner ice cream,  there are eight multidemoninational coinless machines labeled Deuces Wild that offer FPDW and 10/7 DB at the quarter level. 9/6 jacks in $.25, $1,  $2, $5, $10, and  $25.
    New buffet is vastly improved.
A point is earned for every $1 in coin-out and it takes 4,000 points to get $10 in cash or $12 in Comp Dollars
    .25% cashback OR .3% comps.
    3X pts on 7/4.
Anytime during your Birthday month Gold Coast will add 2,500 bonus points. For locals, just insert your card and play, they will be added automatically. Out of towners go to the slot club booth to have them added.
Additional comps possible thru slot hosts? yes - fairly easy room, show and food comps for visitors thru good hosts. About $7000 play/day will get you limited RFB.
Comments: Once - easy food comps for visitors went away with the new slot club program - now everybody has to use points (although hosts will still pick up some meals). Easy walk to the Rio, good shuttle buses to the strip, and easy access to I-15 make the location better than it looks. Weak room offers.

Lots of FP everything, and oodles of progressives (many with FPVP).
One $.25 FP deuces progressive bank by the slot club (about 18 machines), another by the sportsbook. A $.25 15/8 loose deuces 5-way progressive bank, as well as two similar banks of 16/11 double-deuces (99.6%+) by the buffet.
    Great nickel inventory: 9/6 jacks (by McDonald's), 6 fpdw, 10 10/7DB.
A bank of ten $.25 101% FPJW in front of the Lake Mead door near keno.
    A bank of $1 20/12 deuces 5-way progressives and a bank of $.25 9/6 DDB 5-way progressives outside the high-roller area.
The $1 10/7 DB have 5 way progressives built into them: small quads, bonus quads, quad aces, st flush and royal. They are located in a bank of 10 machines right in front of the change booth on the Rancho Drive side of the casino. The other bank has been moved from its old location by the main cage to nearer the Cabo Lounge.
    $1 9/6 jacks progressives.
A bank of about ten multigames with $.25 FPJW (100.6%).
Cabo Lounge bar has some multigames on the back side with quarter 9/6 jacks and 10/7 DB.
5c 10 coin fpdw by the pizza place about 3 banks towards the blackjack pit.
Slot club offers no cash, but 0.17% food comps. 5X pts on Mondays. 4X pts on 7/4.
Buffet is not what it once was, but is still very good for the money. Garduno's offers the best Mexican fare in town. Good pizzeria. Lousy room offers. Tough room comps. Bad rooms (see a trend?)
Fiesta has gone to a "fast comp" system like those employed by Stations and Fitz. No need to go to the booth, just present your slot club card and ID to the cashier at whichever restaurant you choose.
Comp points do not expire. Comp points earned at  "Fiesta Henderson" (AKA: the Reserve) and the Fiesta may be used in either casino.
Additional comps possible thru slot hosts? rarely
Comments: VP heaven and a good buffet, but very tight with room comps and offers. Purely a locals or food comp play. Deuces progressive banks often are paying 101% to 102%.

18 FPDW quarter machines. Five machines on the Bally side wall just to right of Progressive DW short pay, behind change booth which is next to empty high roller machines.. Bank of ten machines just past front bar, Flamingo side, up from bandstand, right next to Elvis slots; and three more are located together in the sports book.. Five 9/7 DB $1.00 behind high roller area against Bally side wall. Some multidenominational machines that contain 9/6 jacks at the dollar level. $1 16/11 double deuces (99.6%).
A bank of .25 10/7 Double Bonus on the Flamingo side by Seattles Best Coffee. There are also a bank of ten multi denomination/multi game IGT's with .25, .50, and $1.00 9/6 J/B. 8/5 Bonus, and 9/7 DB
An aberration amidst the megaresorts: a small, old casino with FPDW. No buffet, but excellent restaurants.
    $1 coin-out = 1 point. 0.25% cashback OR 0.3% comps. 4x pts on 7/4.
Extremely erratic with comps. If you don't like what you hear at the slot club booth, come back next shift and try again. Newbies will have much more trouble getting comps than longtime patrons. Completely free "meal cards" (no points deducted) can sometimes be wheedled out of floor people after the slot club booth has closed. Strong room offers as well as decent mailings to locals.
Additional comps possible thru slot hosts? Doesn't HAVE slot hosts per se, but Floor Manager Lisa Vijos (sp?) serves as such and visitors will do better with her - about $5K/day will earn your room plus some meals.
Comments: Rooms are surprisingly nice and elegant - our wife declares them the "most romantic" in all of Vegas. Its small size and convenient parking make it a personal favorite. Comps are extremely inconsistent, though.
